Cappadocia = The name meaning land of beautiful horses, where beautiful horses are bred, is the legacy of the Assyrians.

 

 

 

 

  • Cappadocia, located in the center of Nevşehir in Central Anatolia. It is said that the soft layers consisting of lava and ashes sprayed by Erciyes, Hasan and Göllü Mountains millions of years ago were exposed to natural disasters for years and formed today’s Fairy Chimneys.In addition, Cappadocia, which is famous for each belief, is home to many civilizations.
  • There are many places worth visiting around Cappadocia, which is not just about Fairy Chimneys. Such as, Gumusler Monastery, Kultepe Kanesh, Kayseri Center, Sultan Marshes, Kapuzbaşı Waterfall, Uchisar Castle, Goreme Open Air Museum, Pasabagı Valley, Avanos, Urgup, Derinkuyu Underground City, Kaymakli Underground City, Zelve Open Air Museum, Pigeon Valley.

 

Where To Visit Around Of Cappadocia?

Gumusler Monastery: It is a rock monastery church carved into a tuff rock in Gumusler town of Nigde province. They are also one of the largest monasteries in the Cappadocia region. In addition to the pictures of Jesus, there are also pictures of many church fathers on the wall paintings of the monastery.

Kultepe Kanesh : It is an ancient city that hosts the oldest written documents of Anatolia and where Assyrian merchants established trade networks before the Hittites. Kültepe Kanesh, a city that sheds light on the political, economic and cultural history of Anatolia, is an important trade region.

Kayseri Center : I mentioned Kultepe, which has become the symbol of our Kayseri. Now, I would like to talk a little about Mount Erciyes and the Hunat Hatun Social Complex. Although Mount Erciyes is one of the highest mountains in Turkey, it is also just one of the symbols of Kayseri. Erciyes Mountain, which hosts one of Turkey’s largest and most modern ski resorts, also takes part in many winter activities. As for the Hunat Hatun Social Complex, it was built by Hunat Hatun, the wife of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad. This complex, consisting of a social complex, mosque, madrasah, bath, soup kitchen and tomb, is one of the most beautiful examples of Seljuk art and the oldest tomb in Kayseri.

Sultan Marshes : It is both a national park and a bird sanctuary. It is protected due to its extraordinary features and rarity, as well as being a Ramsar Site and a National Park.

Kapuzbası Waterfall : It is the highest waterfall in Turkey and the second highest waterfall in the world. It has very suitable areas for hiking, picnics and camping.

Uchisar Castle : Uchisar Castle, the highest point of Cappadocia, is a structure consisting of rooms, tunnels and stairs carved from rocks. It is also one of the oldest settlements in the region.

Goreme Open Air Museum : It is a complex consisting of churches, chapels and monasteries carved into rocks and decorated with frescoes by Christian monks between the 10th and 13th centuries.

Pasabagı Valley : It is the valley where the most well-known and interesting Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia are located. There is also a chapel dedicated to St. Simeon (Syriac ascetic saint) who lived here in the 5th century. You can see all kinds of products from our beautiful Cappadocia in the small market place at the entrance of the valley.

Avanos : Famous for its pottery, Avanos is a town built on the banks of the Kızılırmak River. You can come across clay pots that give the river its red color, carpets woven in different shapes, fabric weavings and wines of different tastes.

Urgup : It is one of the largest and most developed towns in Cappadocia. There are many structures worth seeing such as the Three Beauties, Asmalı Konak, Temenni Hill, Nikolos Monastery. It also hosts many cave hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Derinkuyu Underground City : It is the largest of the 36 underground cities in Cappadocia, as it contains many parts such as churches, schools, warehouses, kitchens, ventilation shafts, water wells, wine cellars, animal shelters and defense mechanisms.

Kaymaklı Underground City : It is the 2nd largest underground city in Cappadocia. In addition to those found in Derinkuyu Underground City, it was also used as a shelter by Christians during the Byzantine period.

Ihlara Valley : It has approximately 100 churches and monasteries carved into the rocks. There are points where many social activities can be done in this valley.

Zelve Open Air Museum : It is one of the oldest settlements in Cappadocia. It is possible to see houses carved into the rocks, churches, monasteries, wine cellars, mills and dovecotes here. This museum, which was a place where activities continued until the 1950s, was taken under protection in 1967.

Güvercinlik Valley : This valley takes its name from the pigeons carved into the rocks. This valley, which offers a visual feast at any time of the day, is said to offer a magnificent view, especially at sunset.
